Develop Rules To Probe 'Love-Jihad' Cases: Himanta Sarma To Cops

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday urged the police to develop a standard operating Procedure (SOP) for probing cases of 'love-jihad' in the state. The root cause of 'love jihad' is forceful religious conversions, Mr Sarma claimed in his address to the superintendents of police at a convention in Bongaigaon. "Besides, an act will be implemented soon in the state through which the marriageable age will be legally fixed for all communities, multiple marriages will be stopped and more legislative steps will be taken so that when arrests are made for violating the norms, the accused do not get bail," Mr Sarma said. The chief minister has been claiming that the triple murder case in Golaghat where a 25-year old Muslim man killed his Hindu wife and her parents on Monday was a case of 'love jihad', a term used by right-wing groups to allege that Muslim men lure Hindu women to convert through marriage. TikTok Offers Text-Based Posts To Challenge Twitter, Instagram

TikTok, the social platform known for its addictive video content, announced Monday that it will offer text-only posts, becoming the latest tech giant to offer an alternative to embattled Twitter. The text posts on TikTok will most closely resemble similar offerings on Instagram, which earlier this month also launched a challenge to Twitter -- which owner Elon Musk renamed X --  called Threads. Like Meta-owned Threads, TikTok benefits from its size, with around 1.4 billion monthly active users, according to specialist site Business of Apps. But unlike Facebook's parent company, it has chosen to integrate its new text-only feature into its app rather than launch a separate product, as Meta did with Threads. TikTok's version will remain more visual than a Twitter or Threads post, with users able to add a color background, music and stickers to the post. The Chinese-owned company said the new format will expand "boundaries of content creation for everyone on TikTok"...

On Question Regarding 'Wronged' At Lord's, Jonny Bairstow Has One Answer

England batter Jonny Bairstow , who was in the middle of a big  controversy in Ashes when he was controversially stumped at Lord's, on Friday played a whirlwind 99 not out off just 81 balls which helped England to a mammoth 592 all out in their first innings. The 33-year-old Yorkshireman, who hammered Australia's bowlers for 10 fours and four sixes on Friday, was equally dismissive of suggestions he is at his best when he has a point to prove. "Everyone thinks I play better when people have a go at me," said Bairstow, who became the seventh batsman in Test history to be stranded on 99 not out when last man James Anderson was lbw to Cameron Green .  Later, Bairstow was not amused at all when a reporter kept asking him about the incident at Lord's.  A journalist asked , "We haven't spoken to you since everything that happened at Lord's." Bairstow: "I got no comment on it." Journalist: "Nothing at All." Bairstow: "No...
